  • Chris Gregory says:

In response to the latest competition,

Q: “What do you think that this image is?“

A: “The front cover of William Orbit’s new album ‘my oracle lives uptown’”.

    …..
Seriously though, is it a blurred image of some LEDs/Lights from the studio ?

    -Chris Gregory

  • David Webb says:

    William,

The image on the cover of My oracle lives uptown appears to be a photo of the tail lights of a car taken through the windshield of another car following behind. The ghostly white blobs under the red/orange glow of the tail lights is probably the reflection of street lights on the hood of the car where the photo was taken. The cars must have been traveling uptown to see the oracle.

  • Tim says:

Or it’s a photo taken at sundown (again non sharp) Don’t know the correct word in English sorry.

  • Tim says:

    Hi William!

I think the photo on your new upcoming album is a sirene from an ambulance or something. Taken non sharp.
    Tim

  • In answer to your question, what do you think that this image is? er..It’s a certain Mr. Wainwright’s toes with a bicycle red lamp on top. The camera must have been on the floor in front…

Love the sound clip buttons by the way, my kids keep coming back to the blog to play…looking forward to April..

  • Erik says:

    Hi :)
I think the lights on the CD cover are blurred lights from your mixer. I really really hope thats right :)

Hi William, Just like to say thanks for the reply to my question regarding the photo of you drawing a comic, I’d love to be able to read it as the artwork looks fantastic and I’m a big fan of comics. I too have been working towards creating my own comic over the last five years, I started out as a more traditional artist, but I’ve almost had to relearn the rules to drawing completely as alot of different skills seem to be needed to create comics, it is endlessly fascinating to me the idea of creating your own world to tell a story. One of my favourite artists is Osamu Tezuka who did Astro Boy and I’ve heard that they are remaking it as a CGI animation this year.
It’s great to hear you are going to put up some videos to your music, if the ideas are from the same creative place as where that comic book came from I’m sure they’ll be wonderful. I also feel much the same way as you about the videos featured on youtube with your music, they are quite a let down really, as your music translates so well visually. I’d just like to say also that this new release for me will be the most exciting album release of 2009, you are in my world one of the many wonderful things that keeps me hanging onto life at times of great struggle and pain, your music reminds me of all the things I love about life and brings me so much joy that it makes living easier!!

    Thanks a million
    Matt

  • Fraenkyt says:

Hi William, here I send you my contribution to the new Competition. Because I own no perfect English, I hope, nevertheless, that my kind of the translation is understandable for you; O) And I hopes which is here the right place to comment on the contribution for the Comtest. Greeting Fraenky

BIRDY: Hey Monte everything clearly? Have you already belonged who puts on the market William Orbit to April, 2009 a new CD album?

MONTE: Really? This is sometimes very good news, with the new CD in the spring 2009 William with wonderful sound and sound sceneries can sweeten us the transition period of the spring the summer. Thus it can be well stood, until it becomes warm and sunny! I please me quite gigantically about it and can wait for it hardly to the CD will appear.

  • Tim says:

    What Monte says tot Birdie:

Can you hand me the Q-tips??

    :)

William you are the best. I hope maybe in the future you’ll collabarate with other female singers. They need you! I would love love to see you work with my favorite singer of all times Tori Amos. The two of you can do magical things!!

    Greetings Tim from The Netherlands

  • David Webb says:

Birdie says “Your growth rings tickle my feet!” and Monte replies “Feel good time!”

  • Gavin Kendall says:

William, love the way you release MAJOR information in such a quiet manner….

You have announced that Torch Song have a new album out.

You then follow up with the news that you will be performing LIVE.

The latter hidden between comments about your shopping and a talking tortoise! lol

I so hope I can get tickets to this show William, been to both the Barbican and Queen Elizabeth Hall.

  • Erwin says:

    hey mr orbit!

Regarding the competition to win a promo copy of “oracle” , i did enter my answer and when i look at the comments section there, i cannot see my entry!

I have never won anything in my life, i really would be over the moon if i could win this.

I admit i visit this site everyday, any new info or stuff about you fascinates me. Your music speaks to me, i listen to it everyday.

I am gay and i can get very depressed sometimes. Its difficult, i always end up falling in love with a straight guy. I sometimes wish i could change myself. There’s so much anger in me, sometimes i wish i was dead.

So when i am lying in bed at night and feeling down, i listen to your music and it makes me feel better.

Ok one last thing : what is your favourite Depeche Mode song?
    Thnx for reading my comment.

  • Gavin Kendall says:

Billy Buttons…a daisy native to Australia or another pseudonym?

Great to have you back remixing William!

  • The Orchestral Suite snippet rocks! I gotta have it man.

  • BOWLEY says:

I see that the NME are saying that your “Madonna producer” new album is NOW due to be released on 4Th. May, is that right William?

  • Kelly V says:

    Hello William,
I have been watching re-rums of the television series Wonderland and wanted to purchase the theme song from the program. However, I cannot find this song on itunes and after a search on the internet, I found your name listed as composer. Can you tell me where I could purchase this song? There is something about it that just moves me.

  • Tom Smith says:

Hey William, here is some what of a riddle for you – Hope you can help me out. A while back, I heard a song that I believe to be from Torch Song, but I have never been able to figure out the name of it or where it came from. It’s a song I have always been trying to track down since hearing … It started with the keys A,G,D,E,D {pause} F,D. Does this ring a bell at all?

  • I would love to know if you have any plans to remaster your older works and maybe even release them on SACD? I would love to have the first Bass O Matic and some other early stuff remastered.

    Love you
    Julz

  • Chris says:

    Hi William
Thanks for your info on Skin, so going by that I assume Peter Rauhofer & Victor Calderone used a filtered acapella for their remix?

I’m also very keen on any information on the Madonna version of Alone Again, are you able to devulge much info on this, maybe even a sample?
    Thanks
    Chris

  • Gavin Kendall says:

Some time ago I read that you were working with another of my favourite artists…Beck. I am guessing that Feel Good Time came out of these sessions, but why have none of the other tracks made it to either your or his subsequent albums.

Are you still looking to produce other artists…Erasure are going to start recording later in the year (apparently)….would love to hear your production work with them…as I have said before, it was your remix of You Surround Me that got me into your work…how does this process work?

Do you get approached by the artist/label or can you put yourself forward?

Thanks in advance for the promo William, it’ll hopefully be with me on Monday!

  • David Webb says:

Slip Away is one of my favorite Torch Song tracks and I’ve always wondered if a Panscan was used for that ‘busy’ underlying melody that begins about 17 seconds into the track. It would be cool if you posted some clips that dissected that and other melodies to see how they were assembled; sort of a peek under the hood (or bonnet in the UK I think).

Do you still use your Juno-106? I have a stack of them that all need those notorious VCF/VCA chips that are always failing. There is a guy that is selling newly designed replacement chips but 6 @ $100 each doesn’t seem worth it for these old synths.

  • guga says:

    Hi William,

wanted to ask you more on the production side (gear, outboard used).

What do you use in terms of synthesizers and samplers more often these days (as for Hello Waveforms)? Is it pritty much the same set-up (a juno, ms20, jd?) and what outboard effects do you prefer more (reverb, delay)?

    best regards,
    guga

    Hi, William,

I took in the positive chi on your myspace page and listened to the fresh clips from the new album and I must admit, I got chills….and when I get chills that means it’s powerful stuff! Found myself craving more…so hooked. Need it. Gotta have it, W.

  • Dustin says:

Whatever happened to the song “Snake”. I think there was an OrbitMixer of it up for a while, and I remember it being a nice little tune.

  • Gavin Kendall says:

William, you have just made my day! I am struggling with tonsilitis as I type this, and you have just provided a medicine far better than any anti-biotics.

What with the news that I have won a promo copy of one of my most awaited albums for the year, you also announce a new Torch Song album. You need to give that announcement a much bigger fanfare William.

Could I be rude another for an additional request? Would you be able to autograph the promo personally to me…I bought a signed photo of you from your Bassomatic days off of Ebay, sadly it was signed to someone else….lol

    Any news on Superpinkymandy?

Thankyou again…please keep releasing stuff, and I wish you every success with your latest projects

    Your friend in Orbit

    Gavin

    • Gavin Kendall says:

Added a photo…only one of me on my hard-drive and sadly it’s a shocker! But still, I made the effort. And will probably up a less scarey effort soon! lol

  • JR says:

Hi! I missed the contest and the opportunity to get a promo copy of “My oracle lives uptown”… I feel really upset! Where to find the info just in case you are organizing another one?
    Thanks in advance!
Is it necessary to say that I love Orbit’s work????
    :)

  • Erik says:

    Hi again.

Thank you for doing this blog, you sir are amazing :) You said working on Blur’s 13 was anarchy. And from anarchy comes mayhem. Some of your more “upbeat” tunes are complete mayhem, i.e. Blur’s Bugman or the remixes you did for them (Movin On and the 15 minute Walter Wall remix of On Your Own), the Pierre Henry remix and more. I especially love the wierd drums on the Movin On remix and your remix of Morgan King’s I’m Free. Are you ever going back to this mayhem? The first version of a song called Forbidden Planet previously on your site seemed to be in that category :)

I’m also fascinated by your reuse of elements in different form, if you get what I mean. For exapmple The bassline from Prepare To Energize and the bassline in A Hazy Shade of Random or the beautful string-buildup in Beth Orton’s The Prisoner and the same buildup in Fragamosia. Fantastic!

And I have always had this dream that you one day would produce a Muse album. They are such a great band, but something is missing with them, and I think your sound would complete them :) Is that in any way realistic? :p

    Can’t wait till april!!

Hi William – I really love your “Pieces in a Modern Style” Album, and you said on your website (ages ago!) that you were working on a follow-up…

…will this ever see the light of day?

…and will any of your music ever be available as high resolution “studio master” FLAC downloads – quite a few artists make thier stuff avaiable like this now, and your music is made for it…

    Cheers,

    Matt

  • Wheat108 says:

I’ve been anticipating your next album since Waveforms. I think that album is wonderful and it’s great to see you refining and evolving your art over the years. The new tracks sounds awesome. (I still have a fond memory of dragging my poor adolescent frame to the faraway downtown record shop especially to buy Hinterland back in the mid 90s. I had looked everywhere for it. It was awesome to be able to find it and support an artist I had genuine enthusiasm for.)

I wanted to ask if there are any plans to offer digital sales of Oracle Lives Uptown in lossless or wav format? I usually end up buying CD discs to have full quality versions. But the convienence of digital download is superior if I can get it. Recently I’ve bought the music of Daniel Lanois off of his website in wav format, as well as the new album by Brian Eno and David Byrne in flac lossless format. I totally loved having this option. I won’t buy from ITunes or Amazon because of the compressed nature of the music, (and that doesn’t even address my bias of Apple’s corporate arrogance in UI and hardware use. Ha.) Having full quality versions of the music from musician’s such as yourself isn’t just a desire, it’s a necessity for me. Once you start listening with higher end audio equipment like I have, it makes a difference. I don’t want to comprimise all the obvious effort you put into the subtlety and sonic range of your music; it would be a shame to do that in a world where hard drive space is cheap and bandwidth readily available.

Keep up the great work! I’ll be listening. I also second other’s opinion in my desire to hear your orchestral compositions. Also, as a filmmaker I always had the desire to create a film with your music as soundtrack. Would you be interested in seeing such a thing?

  • Alen Vujevic says:

Hi William, thank you for posting Guitar-Sitar – absolutely mesmerizing.
I have question. My personal favorite track on Hello Waveforms is “Sea Green” and you did a “sped up” version of it with Ellie Lawson on the track “L.A.”. Can you please post a instrumental version of this track on your site..I would love to hear it. Cheers and keep up the great work, can’t wait to buy your new album. Alen, Sydney Australia.

  • Erik says:

    Hi William :)
I’ve been a fan of you for years now, and to date not one of your productions has let me down (my favourites being your remix of Pierre Henry’s Psyche rock and Blur’s Bugman). I can’t wait for the new realease :O

And I was wondering, is the new version of “Where to you go” that was on your page earlier going to be realeased? Or could you post the whole song like you did with guitar-sitar? Which by the way is such a beatiful song :)

And how bout starting to sell unrealeased material right here on your website? There were so many beautiful tracks in your audio section, whould be nice to hear them in full versions.

And lastly, as many others are wondering to, will your orchestral suite ever be realeased or at least aired on BBC? (I mailed BBC about 3 months after the concert, and they said they had no plans as of then to air it:( WHY?)

Thank you for an amazing blog, looking forward to every new thing you do :)

Hellow, Wiliam! I wanna a promo too! That’s beautiful, red and black! Can you send me one?

  • happy says:

William, you generous soul! Thank you deeply for posting the track I asked about, “Guitar-Sitar.” It is every bit as moving as I hoped it would be. Wonderful job! Does this mean you will be starting a request -line for older, unused tracks of yours? Hint…Hint….

So thank you again and please keep posting your thoughts on music and, well whatever you feel like writing about. I have always loved reading your thoughts in interviews and such. I can’t tell you what a blessing the last few weeks have been for me and undoubtedly other fans of yours to find you updating your site with “random banter” and music from your unheard catalogue. So a big mahalo (thank you) from Hawaii!

  • Brendan Gallagher says:

Have you looked at or used Spectrasonics Omnisphere?

  • Erwin says:

    Hi William!

First Question : Did you photoshop the pictures of the celebs holding your new CD? If you did, its awesome! I am a designer, absolutely love Photoshop!!

Second Question : Did you know that Depeche Mode’s new album is coming out in April?! Its called “Sounds of the Universe”.

I cant believe that they and you are bringing out a new album in the same month! Awesomeness!

You are really lucky and very blessed, i wish i could meet you just to chat about the way your music makes me feel, thank you for the music!!

    Erwin

  • Tom Smith says:

PS – If that’s not it, it would make for a great future album title…

  • Tom Smith says:

I’ll take a stab at your riddle too … I’m gonna’ guess OTTFFSSBWM? Stands for: Other Than The Frozen Foods Section Snow Balls Will Melt?

  • Tom Smith says:

Your posting of Guitar-Sitar has made my night, William. Thanks for posting, and I cannot wait to hear more! As with the rest of your albums, I will for sure be recommending this album to all of my friends in Pittsburgh! Thanks again, Tom

  • Gavin Kendall says:

Just to clarify, I voted “No” to MP3′s…the thinking behind this was that I interpreted that as any of your music could be released as mp3 rather than on cd..I panicked and said no, lol…I would love the MP3 streams to continue on this brilliant blog.

Hi William, can you tell me what the red/blue image is of on the new album cover?

  • Hi, William! Hello from Russia!:) You are favorite musician and producer for a lot of people here!;)
Congratulations about new album! I looking forward to listen to it!

    I have a three questions.

    1. William, what do you think about future of hardware? Now, any sound of vintage synthesizers is available for everyone, who have computer with powerful audio interface and software. Can it mean that we’ll not need in hardware synths soon?
    BTW, anyway I like hardware!:)

    2. When I travel, I use laptop with Reason 4.0 and Echo AudioFire4. It is very cool, I can write music anywhere and sound quality is cool.
What do you use when traveling?

    3. Work in the studio for a long time is not good for health (I know for myself). I use a bicycle for maintain good physical shape. What do you use?

    Thank you so much!

P.S. Sorry, if my English isn’t very well.
