Michael Caine meets William Orbit
Sunday October 14, 2007
As a lot of people know now, Sir Michael Caine recently started a second career as the compiler of a series of chill-out albums (the first, Cained, was released to rave reviews last month). One of Britain's finest ever screen actors had kept his love of music quiet for a long time, but was in at the very start of the discotheque era. For OMM [Observer Music Monthly], he had lunch with William Orbit, the creator of classic 'chilled' albums such as Strange Cargo and producer to the likes of Madonna, at Scott's in Mayfair.

New album out, Feb 2006
William Orbit's new forthcoming album "Hello Waveforms" will be released 20th (UK) & 21st February 2006 on Sanctuary records.
His first solo release since 2000’s critically acclaimed ‘Pieces in a Modern Style’, the new album was performed and produced by William. ‘Hello Waveforms’ is ethereal, ambient, subtle and distinctive in style, fusing strong melodies with electronic synths to produce his definitive signature sound.
Recorded in London and America, the new album features a collection of collaborations and influences - the track ‘Humming Chorus’ is taken from Madame Butterfly, ‘Spiral’ features the Sugababes and Kenna on vocals, while Finley Quaye plays acoustic guitar on the dreamlike ‘Who Owns The Octopus’.
William has also reunited with his former Strange Cargo band member Laurie Mayer, who plays piano and synthesizer on ‘Surfin’ and provides vocals on the tracks ‘Bubble Universe’ and ‘Who Owns the Octopus?’.
Track listing is: "sea green", "humming chorus", "surfin", "you know too much about flying saucers", "spiral", "who owns the octopus?", "bubble universe", "fragamosia",
"firebrand", "they live in the sky", "colours from nowhere".
